ENGLISH MUSIC MINISTRY (MM) FOR MASSES
SAINT GEORGE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Please contact the office at 435-673-2604 regarding your interest or inquiries about our ministries.

In late 2025, at our “Liturgical Ministry Training” workshop with Lorena Needham from our diocese, it was explained that the responsibility of our music ministry is to fully know and understand all parts of the liturgy. We are to know the readings and their message so that the music we select can truly enhance the meaning of the words proclaimed. If we do this job effectively, hearts can be moved towards the Lord. This is the goal of our ministry.

It is important that members of the ministry maintain a healthy spiritual and prayer life to stay connected with God in order to keep a spirit of love, joy, humility, forgiveness, a positive attitude, as well as to keep an ear to hear those whom we serve – Our Lord, the pastor, and the people, respectively.

The following is a breakdown of masses covered by the English Music Ministry. Each of these uses traditional music.

Saturday 5 pm Vigil Mass and the 9 am and 11 am Sunday Masses

These are all covered by a Cantor and/or small ensemble of singers with piano. The first two Sundays of the month are covered by a choir, led by Mary Helen Stricklin, with guitar, piano, and additional instruments.

Holy Days of Obligation

8 am and 6 pm Masses are covered by a cantor and a small ensemble, when possible, accompanied by a piano.

12:00 Bilingual Mass – Members of the English and Spanish Music Ministry work together to plan and cover these Masses.

Special Bilingual Masses – i.e., Confirmation, Holy Communion, etc.

The 11 am Choir and members of the Spanish Music Ministry assist with providing music for these events.

Funerals

Members of the English Music Ministry are asked to sing, either individually or in a small ensemble, for funeral masses accompanied by a piano.
