LEGION OF MARY MINISTRY
SAINT GEORGE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Please contact the office at 435-673-2604 regarding your interest or inquiries about our ministries.

The Legion of Mary is the single largest Catholic Organization in the world dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and Mother of His Holy Church and Mother of her Most Holy Rosary. And she is also Our Mother Mary. This organization is composed of lay Catholics who seek sanctification and holiness through prayer and spiritual works, in union with the Blessed Virgin Mary, and under the guidance of the clergy. There are two types of membership: Active and Auxiliary.

The Legion of Mary was founded by Frank Duff in Dublin, Ireland, on September 7, 1921. It is active in over 170 countries worldwide and has a membership of millions of people.

Membership in this Praesidium is 12 to 15 in attendance. Active members meet weekly each Monday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm in Kuzy Hall, Room 1. Everyone is welcome to attend the weekly meetings.

We belong to the San Francisco Senatus, the multi-state level, and the Curia here in the State of Utah, which has six (6) Praesidiums to which we belong.

The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces, serve the Church and their neighbors on a voluntary basis. The general and essential means by which the Legion of Mary is to affect its object is personal service acting under the influence of the Holy Spirit, having Divine Grace as its moving principle and support, and the glory of God and the salvation of souls as its final end and purpose.

Evangelization, especially the seeking of conversions to the Church, should be a priority for the Legion.

Typical spiritual activities:

  • Visiting convalescent homes and homebound
  • Ministering to the sick and needy
  • Leading Rosaries at funeral services
  • Distributing Rosaries, Miraculous Medals, Holy Cards, and other Sacramentals
  • Faith Formation within the Parish

Typical works of Evangelization and Devotions:

  • Organizing Enthronement/Consecration of the Sacred Heart
  • Traveling Madonna
  • Marian Hour every Sunday at 4 pm in the church.
  • Divine Mercy Sunday
  • Our Lady of Fatima Procession
  • Epiphany Blessing

Our Auxiliary members form the prayer wings of the Legion. These are lay people, clergy, or religious who are unable to take on active duties but wish to support the Legion through prayer. Daily recitation of the Rosary and daily recitation of the Tessera, the official Legion prayer booklet, are the Auxiliary members’ responsibilities. Auxiliary members offer spiritual support to Mary’s mission – helping to crush evil, advance Christ’s reign, and strengthen the efforts of active members.
